What Ethos will not do
Its case for trust is what it refuses to do. Each refusal below comes with the line in the app that keeps it.
It will not make up what they never said.
If something was never in what you brought, you are told so.
It is built not to fill a silence with something that sounds right.

It will not pretend to be them.
Every conversation carries a line saying the replies are written by AI from the archive, and are not the real person. It cannot be switched off.
Ask it whether it is them, and it says no.

It will not build a voice or a face without your yes.
A voice is built only from a recording, a face only from a photograph, and only after you agree.
Both are marked as built, and you can take them back.
In the app:built from recordings of them speaking, and nothing else. you can take it back at any time.
It will not message you as them.
Nothing arrives in their name.
No streaks, and nothing that nudges you to come back.
It will not charge you to read.
Reading, adding and exporting cost nothing, and stay free.
Answers come with a monthly allowance, and the plan removes the limit. Stopping it deletes nothing.
In the app:if you stop paying, nothing is deleted. the answering stops.
One thing this page does not claim: that what you bring never leaves Ethos. Reading it and building a voice use outside services, so it does, in the course of that work. The privacy notice and the list of subprocessors say which services those are.
