ETHOS keeps what somebody actually said and lets you talk to it. Using the app means agreeing to what is below.
Who can use it
You must be 18 or older. ETHOS is not designed for children and is not directed at them. It deals with death and grief, and it can surface crisis resources.
What it is, and what it is not
- Replies are generated from the material you handed over. They are not the person, they are not a message from the person, and the app says so on every screen where they appear.
- It answers only from what it holds. When it has nothing on a subject, it says so rather than inventing an answer.
- It is not medical, psychological or legal advice, and it is not a crisis service. If you are in danger, use the helplines the app lists, or your local emergency number.
What you hand over
- You must have the right to hand over what you hand over — the messages, recordings, photographs and documents, including those of somebody who has died.
- You keep whatever rights you already had in that material. You give us only what is needed to run the product for you: to store it, to build the archive from it, and to answer you from it.
- Do not hand over material you were not given and would not be entitled to share.
A built voice
A voice is built only when you ask for one, and only from a recording you supply. Do not build a voice of a living person without their permission.
Ending it
You can delete any file, any archive, or your whole account from inside the app at any time. Deleting the account removes every archive you made and the sign-in itself.
No guarantee
The product is provided as it is. We do not promise that it will be available without interruption, or that a reply will be right. Nothing here removes rights you have under the law where you live.
